Contemporary Day of the Dead Imagery in Art: IMAS

Today at the IMAS Paul Valadez gave a lecture about Contemporary Day of the Dead Imagery in Art. He included artist like Kathe Kollwitz, Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Frida Khalo, Carlos Gonzales Castro, Mendez and Jimmy Lucero to name a few. He finished this lecture with images of my paintings and drawings. I am so pleased to contribute to this lecture and now I do not feel alone in this concept that has turned into an obsession.

Me encontre "Mejor que con Dios" in my reception

I was given the challenge to give a talk at my exhibition. I was nervous and I knew I had to do it. After the first try, now I feel its important to talk more and not only produce work. To talk one on one and talk in all ways. I do not only feel good right now I feel I know more.

Thank you all for coming. It was absolutely amazing. I gave this day the highest value...Mejor que con Dios.

I hope to post more soon. I am here with my painting "Mejor que con Dios" and wearing a dress my mom made. I will absolutely try to get a microphone for my laptop and post recordings if I can in this blog.

My exhibit also made it to the Chachalacas In Orbit blog. Please also see it. Imanol has a great story about my exhibition.

Hope everyone can make it =)

La colorada

The chalan is almost done. I need to finish only ....the chalan and some parts of "La colorada." While I was painting the truck, I was realizing how important they are in our border culture. Trucks signify so much =)

Mejor que con Dios

October finally came and my exhibition is up already at the UTPA Library Art Annex Gallery. Here is the postcard I made. This is a close up of my artwork "Mejor que con Dios".

This is my self-portrait called "Mi necesidad de seguir." I was inspired to created this painting after seeing Gustav Klimt paintings and Kathe Kollwitz's prints. Oh and also, Federico Garcia Lorca's poems.

HESTEC was this past saturday! I was glad to see people taking time to stop by and look at my exhibition. If I am not mistaken, this was a group of middle school kids and they were amazed at seeing the cemeteries. I truly appreciated their presence =).
