Viendo Colores
Viendo colores is one of my cemetery sketches. I worked with oil pastels and watercolors. This sketch inspired my big painting Mejor que con Dios. I love working with these two media because you have the rigidness of the oil pastels to contrast the often softness of the watercolors.
AND this is also my Mr. Wilson.

Cruzes blancas
Cruzes blancas, 2010
I felt this painting deserved its own posting even though its one of my Mr. Wilsons. I enjoyed it so much I cannot see it go just yet. Its one of those paintings that just put me into the next level.

My Mr. Wilsons
Many women artists talk about their artwork as their babies. They say they give birth to them. It is a creation after all. For me its not the same. A baby has the same physical identity as the mother. My artwork can never have the same physical identity as I do.
My artwork is more like Mr. Wilson from Cast Away. Do you remember?
I talk to my artwork just like Tom Hanks talked to Mr. Wilson. And yes, I do have to admit I do cry when something happens to my Mr. Wilsons or for that matter when they leave me.
Mr. Wilson was Tom Hanks conscious when he was alone. For me, my artwork is my conscious and the only object that understands me because it is me. It is a one on one life, alone, living with my artwork.
As this month progresses, I will be posting all my Mr. Wilsons that have left me and are now in someone's home.

Here is the second Gallery Tour I did for my reception. My first one was a longer and the second I thought about making it short. Hopefully I will get my hands on the video of my interview this past Thursday.

Contemporary Day of the Dead Imagery in Art: IMAS
Today at the IMAS Paul Valadez gave a lecture about Contemporary Day of the Dead Imagery in Art. He included artist like Kathe Kollwitz, Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Frida Khalo, Carlos Gonzales Castro, Mendez and Jimmy Lucero to name a few. He finished this lecture with images of my paintings and drawings. I am so pleased to contribute to this lecture and now I do not feel alone in this concept that has turned into an obsession.

Me encontre "Mejor que con Dios" in my reception
I was given the challenge to give a talk at my exhibition. I was nervous and I knew I had to do it. After the first try, now I feel its important to talk more and not only produce work. To talk one on one and talk in all ways. I do not only feel good right now I feel I know more.
Thank you all for coming. It was absolutely amazing. I gave this day the highest value...Mejor que con Dios.
I hope to post more soon. I am here with my painting "Mejor que con Dios" and wearing a dress my mom made. I will absolutely try to get a microphone for my laptop and post recordings if I can in this blog.
My exhibit also made it to the Chachalacas In Orbit blog. Please also see it. Imanol has a great story about my exhibition.

Mejor que con Dios
October finally came and my exhibition is up already at the UTPA Library Art Annex Gallery. Here is the postcard I made. This is a close up of my artwork "Mejor que con Dios".
This is my self-portrait called "Mi necesidad de seguir." I was inspired to created this painting after seeing Gustav Klimt paintings and Kathe Kollwitz's prints. Oh and also, Federico Garcia Lorca's poems.
HESTEC was this past saturday! I was glad to see people taking time to stop by and look at my exhibition. If I am not mistaken, this was a group of middle school kids and they were amazed at seeing the cemeteries. I truly appreciated their presence =).

After seeing Kathe Kollwitz's prints, I was inspired to spend more time with charcoal than I had before in my drawing classes. It was about capturing light with a presence of a enclosed emotion. These are the drawings I came up with as I developed my mark. I had to draw myself over and over again to see what I was looking for. And my cat...well what can I say...he has a pink frame.

Mejor que con Dios
so here it is now one of my finished pieces ready to go up Oct. 1st at the University of Texas-Pan American. I am so excited to do once more a solo exhibition. I learn so much from Dia de los Muertos...I do not think I will ever get tired of it. It always makes me try new media and be daring. Will be posting more once the exhibit goes up =)

the string is the new line
I started today with my artwork that I will exhibit at my Dia de los Muertos Exhibition. This year it will be much different than before. I will include new media like I did in the previous one. Besides! I am going much bigger this time. This is a close up of a big drawing. I used string and cloth. Hopefully I will throw in a third and fourth media soon.
Reynosa la maravillosa!
Many think Reynosa is not Mexico. More so, they think Reynosa could not have the possibility to inspire art. Yes, I was born in Reynosa and maybe this might make me see more than there is. But, I am attracted to chaos and irregularities of all sorts found in space. Here is my painting of the plaza de Reynosa capturing the calm chaos that the colors generate. Did I say already I love paradoxes?

El Chalan
In a few days, I will be starting my second Chalan. I believe this Chalan to be important, magical and a transportation that takes you back and forth to the present and the past and to Mexico and the United States. The first time I went to do research a man there told me to photograph the Chalan when it came back from Mexico. He said it was the moment when the Chalan looked the most beautiful. It is about expecting and it is about the slow smooth movement it makes when it crosses the water. It is about wanting someone to come and take you back to the place where you left a part of yourself.

Mi Chacha
This is my chacha painting. Its pretty big: 3ft x 4ft. I keep seeing too many colors at once so I have found myself often stopping to get a hold of myself. For sure, I can see some colors did not come out in the picture. I have been putting glaces and also painting thick. For sure, this painting inspired me to do a salmon painting =)
